¹⁵ When the servant of the man of God got up and went out early the next morning, an army with horses and chariots had surrounded the city. “Oh no, my lord! What shall we do?” the servant asked.

¹⁶ “Don’t be afraid,”^(A) the prophet answered. “Those who are with us are more^(B) than those who are with them.”

¹⁷ And Elisha prayed, “Open his eyes, Lord, so that he may see.” Then the Lord opened the servant’s eyes, and he looked and saw the hills full of horses and chariots^(C) of fire all around Elisha.

¹⁸ As the enemy came down toward him, Elisha prayed to the Lord, “Strike this army with blindness.”^(D) So he struck them with blindness, as Elisha had asked.

³ The foundation Solomon laid for building the temple of God was sixty cubits long and twenty cubits wide^[a](A) (using the cubit of the old standard).

⁵ He paneled the main hall with juniper and covered it with fine gold and decorated it with palm tree^(A) and chain designs. ⁶ He adorned the temple with precious stones. And the gold he used was gold of Parvaim. ⁷ He overlaid the ceiling beams, doorframes, walls and doors of the temple with gold, and he carved cherubim^(B) on the walls.

¹⁴ He made the curtain^(A) of blue, purple and crimson yarn and fine linen, with cherubim^(B) worked into it.

¹⁵ For the front of the temple he made two pillars,^(C) which together were thirty-five cubits^[a] long, each with a capital^(D) five cubits high. ¹⁶ He made interwoven chains^[b](E) and put them on top of the pillars. He also made a hundred pomegranates^(F) and attached them to the chains. ¹⁷ He erected the pillars in the front of the temple, one to the south and one to the north. The one to the south he named Jakin^[c] and the one to the north Boaz.^[d]
